Printing Time

I have to say, I am SO proud of the kids in room 8. Every day we add new steps to our classroom routines and they are picking everything up quickly.

One of the routines we are working on is printing time. Every day, after lunch, we meet on the carpet to talk about printing. Yesterday we made a character named Mat Man. He is made up of short lines, long lines and curved lines. These also happen to be the types of lines that letters are made of.

Today we talked about how to hold a writing tool and we watched a helpful video.

After the video everyone practiced holding the pencil to make both long and short lines. These are the building blocks for correct pencil grasp and letter formation. Having a sturdy grip will help children to write more quickly and easily in the future.

In our class we also do lots of fun activities that help to strengthen the muscles in our hands too!

Using tongs to move objects.
Snapping small blocks together and apart.
Of course, drawing and writing are always good.
