Last year my class participated in the "We Can See" project. Along with classrooms and families from all over the world, we shared what we could see from our school yard. It was an awesome experience and my students loved creating their own books to share with the world and getting to see the world through the eyes of other children.
You can view the special blog that was created for this project here.
Today our class decided to create our own "We Can See" book. We walked all around our school yard and talked about all of the things that we might want to share with other students. The students decided what we should take pictures of. Then, once we were inside, the students wrote all of the text to go along with the photos.
We are really proud of how our book turned out.

Way Up High...
This week the students in Room 8 learned a new poem called "Apples"
They really wanted to share it with you. While we read the poem we practice pointing to each word on the chart.
The students asked me to send a copy of the poem home with them so they could read* it to you.
*Many students may pretend to read the poem. This is a very positive first step in learning to read. They are NOT expected to be able to read the poem independently.
Enjoy!

Playing Games
Today 4 students from our class got to go with Mrs. Macdonell to learn a new game. She taught them how to play "Duck, Duck, Goose."
While they were playing, they recorded some rules to help everyone have a fun time playing.
In the afternoon, our whole class got to watch their video. Then two of the students taught other children how to play. They really liked getting to be the teachers.
What games do you like playing at home?

Cutting Room Floor
Hi there, it's Mrs. Lowe today. Throughout the year I have had so much fun learning with the students in room 8. I think I have learned as much as they have.
This year we were so fortunate to be given some great new technology equipment which lead to many firsts;
Most of what we have done has been shared with our readers through our class blog, but every now and then a project does not make it.
These two projects were not published but I feel they are too great/funny/awesome not to share!
#1 This video was made as a submission for a grant. Even though we did not get the grant, the students learned many valuable lessons about how to ask for things.
#2 This was my first attempt at "Green Screening." Unfortunately at this busy time of the year it just did not get finished in time for Father's Day, and not all students work was included.
I really hope you have enjoyed our class blog this year!

Children's Museum
Last week our class went to the Children's Museum. We spent the whole day playing and exploring the museum.
Here are some of the highlights!
I liked everything because it was fun and awesome! - Krystal
I liked the lasagna play structure because it looked like real lasagna - Jessica
I liked that my Grandma came. It was awesome! - Kyran
I liked the slide and the train and the lasagna - Colton
My favourite part was going on the slide! Mercedez
My favourite part was going to the water table because you get to do cool stuff there! - Kiera
My favourite part was going in the water table because there was a tornado that we can put the balls inside - Aaliyah
My favourite part was the lasagna. It was kind of hard for me - Piper
Going in the water table was my favourite because there was a tornado thing that you could put these tiny balls in and it would spin around and if you put your hand in the hole in the bottom the ball will come to your hand and it will stay there and then a tornado would come up! - Logan
I liked riding in the train - Jaylan
My favourite part was the slide and looking through that glass thing. You get to see people go down the slide. I looked down when Kiera and Aaliyah were going - Kiara
My favourite part was the choo-choo train because I got to go right to the front - Ashton
I loved playing with the balls in the whirlpool - Oliver
My favourite part was in the train, we kept saying that the engine was getting lower. - Annabelle

Classroom Tour
Way back in January we were reading Mrs. Cassidy's class' blog and came across a tour of their classroom. The students noticed many things that were the same as our classroom and some things that were different. We had a great discussion where students made a lot of connections and many "I wonder..." statements.
You can find their blog post here.
The students in room 8 immediately suggested that we make our own video to share our classroom with other students and our families.
The students decided which things in our classroom were important to share. They developed a script and practiced their parts.
After we filmed our video the students watched it and decided it was not ready to show. They realized there was way too much background noise and it was hard to hear their speaking parts. It was interesting to see them beginning to reflect on their work and find ways to improve it.
With a little more practice and some minor changes, they are now ready to share their work.
We would love to see your classroom or read your comments!
