Pie Throwing

Today was the big day!

To end off our school fundraiser, each kid who brought $5 today, got to throw a pie at one of the teachers.  All the students were watching and cheering from the bleachers.

It was crazy! Here's what the kids had to say:

The teachers wore black bags on their bodies and shower caps on their heads - Dante
They were dirty - Denise
The teachers wore goggles - Leah
I threw a pie at Mrs. Lowe and the plate stuck on her face on got into her mouth. - Bryce
People were yelling really loud.- Ellie
We think Mrs. Lowe had 10 pies thrown at her.
I threw a pie at Mrs. Lowe and it went splat on her face. -Ethan
There was whip cream on the plate and no pie. -Cassie
There was whip cream all over their face. -Chase
It was really sticky and smelled yucky. I'm very proud of our students and families for raising so much money for our school. - Mrs. Lowe

Popcorn Party

Today was the big day, we got to celebrate our success with a popcorn party!

We used our Smart Board to choose which movie we would watch.

We used coffee filters to hold our tasty popcorn.

When we were finished eating our popcorn, we used markers to colour designs on the coffee filters. Then we sprayed them with water and watched the colours mix together.  They turned out pretty great!

International Walk to School Day

Yesterday Stevenson School participated in International Walk to School Day.

You can visit their website here.

We walked to school to help the environment by reducing pollution and also helped our bodies by getting active!

Many students met before school at the Rod's Football Field and walked to school together. It was nice to have some parents and grandparents join us.

Ethan from Room 8 was our event photographer. We think he got some pretty good shots!

A beautiful fall tree.

Our community police officers joined us for our walk to school.
When we got back to school we lined up and sang O'Canada outside. It was a great start to the day!

I liked the lasagna play structure because it looked like real lasagna - Jessica

I liked that my Grandma came. It was awesome! - Kyran

I liked the slide and the train and the lasagna - Colton

My favourite part was going on the slide! Mercedez

My favourite part was going to the water table because you get to do cool stuff there! - Kiera

My favourite part was going in the water table because there was a tornado that we can put the balls inside - Aaliyah

My favourite part was the lasagna. It was kind of hard for me - Piper

Going in the water table was my favourite because there was a tornado thing that you could put these tiny balls in and it would spin around and if you put your hand in the hole in the bottom the ball will come to your hand and it will stay there and then a tornado would come up! - Logan

I liked riding in the train - Jaylan

My favourite part was the slide and looking through that glass thing. You get to see people go down the slide. I looked down when Kiera and Aaliyah were going - Kiara

My favourite part was the choo-choo train because I got to go right to the front - Ashton

I loved playing with the balls in the whirlpool - Oliver

My favourite part was in the train, we kept saying that the engine was getting lower. - Annabelle

Music Monday

Today was Music Monday.

"Music Monday is an annual event that brings together thousands of students, musicians, parents and community members across the country to celebrate the gift of music in our lives, on the same day at the same time. The Coalition for Music Education launched Music Monday in 2005."

We started the day by gathering with the whole school to perform our new Stevenson School song "Reach for the Stars." We all stood outside and Mr. Miller recorded us from the roof!

This is a video of the song that was made so the students could learn the words. Soon we will have a new video to show you!

In the afternoon we watched a live broadcast from Astronaut Chris Hadfield in space.

"Astronaut Chris Hadfield and Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson have collaborated between earth and space to co-write the official song for Music Monday 2013. The end-result features Hadfield playing the song from the International Space Station, while Robertson and the Wexford Gleeks, a TDSB school choir, join him to unite in song with schools and communities across our nation."

Mrs. Lowe will post a link to a recording of the broadcast as soon as it's available. Here's a video of the beautiful song.

We had lots of wonders about how Commander Hadfield does things in space so Mrs. Lowe showed us some very funny YouTube videos that explain how everything works up at the International Space Station.

We have lots of wonders about space. What do you wonder?

Mission Impossible

This week the fantastic Phys. Ed. team at our school turned our gym into a gigantic obstacle course. The theme was "Mission Impossible."

Students participated in various secret spy missions. Once they completed the entire course, they got to ring the gong!

I went down to the gym while the students were working on their spy skills. It sure looked like they were having fun!
