Outdoor Challenge: Day Three

Another day of great weather and we got to go on our biggest adventure yet!

This morning there was ground work being done on our playground so we hung out on our tarp and read a few stories. We also played a new game called "Bop It." You'll have to ask your child to show you how to play.

We talked about how today was Kindness Day and what we could do to be kind. We used water and chalk to write kind messages to the students of our school. Check out our Instagram photos to see some of the thoughtful messages.

Then we got out the parachute and played some games before we had to head inside for a presentation from the Block Parents. They taught us about how block parents are there to help you if you are hurt or lost. They also reminded students that they should know their parents first and last names, address, and phone number.

In the afternoon we went for a long walk and tried out geocaching. If you haven't heard of it, please check out the video.  We found two awesome caches and traded some small toys.

At the third cache we found a bit of a surprise. There were some boxes of food and some other items that suggested someone had made the area a temporary home. We had a quick team meeting and decided that we would not like someone to be looking around in our home so we should leave. Before we left, we wrote a kind note and left a flower and one of the treasures that we had found while geocaching.

When I checked the online log this morning there was no mention of any problem at the site (someone had been there yesterday and said it was a great cache). It was surprising and a little sad but the empathy and kindness that the students from Room 8 demonstrated was truly heartwarming.

Please watch the video for highlights!
