Fall Dancing
Earlier this week we began talking about the changes that happen in Fall. We've talked about the weather getting cooler, days getting shorter and the leaves changing colour and falling off of their branches.
The students also participated in a dance activity where they practiced moving like a fall leaf. They learned how to make movements using high, low and middle spaces. There were many smiles and lots of giggles as the students danced around the room to soothing music and sounds of nature.

Symphonies and Fire Drills
Today musician from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra came to play at our school. They played some songs that we already knew. We especially liked the song from Super Mario and Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.
"I liked the Mario song, it's so awesome" - Krystal
"I liked it when we were sitting and listening" - Brooke
"I knew Call Me Maybe from my Mom's car" - Oliver
In the afternoon we had 2 fire drills. When we hear the fire bell ring, we go straight out the door. We do not run, because we might trip and hurt ourselves. We don't cover our ears because we need to hear important instructions.
"You always have to go quickly out the door and then just leave, don't wait!" - Abigail
"I was freezing outside because I didn't bring my sweater" - Mercedez
"Never start eating when the fire drill goes on." - Julia

Glitterbug!
Room 8 had a visitor today. His name was Glitterbug!
He can see germs.
We wanted to make sure the germs were gone, so we made a list of how to wash our hands.
We noticed that there were a lot of /S/'s in our writing. We wanted to count them so we circled them on the Smart Board. There were 13 /S/'s all together!
"It was fun with Glitterbug" - Kiera
"It was exciting putting our hands under Glitterbug!" - Abigail
"I liked putting my hands under the water" - Ajaxx
"Glitterbug was so fun I could dream he came to life. P.S. Love you mom!" - Krystal
"It was so cool to see the germs!" - Piper

Libraries and Learning Buddies
On Friday, some of the students decided to create their own library inside of our classroom. To facilitate their play we added book bags, a date stamp, and some library cards. The students even created their own keyboard to look up books for the library visitors.
Later in the afternoon we met with our learning buddies. Each Kindergarten student is paired with one or two grade 4/5 buddies. We will be meeting once each school cycle to read and work on technology projects.

Names
Today we read a book called "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes.
*It started off sad and then got happy. In the beginning of the story everyone was making fun of Chrysanthemum's name. Then the music teacher told her that her name was special. Then Chrysanthemum felt happy.
We talked about how this book reminded us of other books we've read including "Unlovable" and "Sweet Briar."
Then we counted how many letters are in each of our names.
We made a graph.
We practiced writing our names the "Kindergarten Way"(with a capital letter first, followed by all lowercase letters).
*(Written as a shared writing experience by the students in Room 8)
"We had fun doing our names" Kiera
"It was fun putting our names on the graph" - Kiara
"I felt happy when I wrote my name" - Ashton
