Author Visit

This morning Ms. Armstrong came to read us a story called Extra Yarn, written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen. After, she taught a few kids how to knit a little.

Then we got to talk on Skype with Jon Klassen all the way from Los Angeles! He read This Is Not My Hat, about a little fish who steals a blue hat.

Author and Illustrator, Jon Klassen (Mrs. Lowe's cousin)
After the story we got to ask him all of our questions. He told us his favourite colour is blue and that he is 31 years old.

Then he showed us how to draw a crab under water and a turtle wearing black boots. He even asked for some ideas about his next book.

We chatted for so long that we missed recess. Mrs. Lowe took us outside and we got to play wherever we wanted because we had the whole playground to ourselves.

Getting ready to slide all together.
Penguins with eggs in their nest.
King of the snow castle.

Jon Klassen told us that his favourite book is Sam and the Firefly. What is your favourite book?

I Love to Read!

February is "I Love to Read" month. Last week our school celebrated with a special assembly and a Family Read-In night.

It was nice to see so many families come out to read together (even though it was so cold and blustery out).

Check out the Reminders page of our blog for more "I Love to Read" month events!

"This Is Not My Hat"

This morning Ms. Armstrong read us a book called "This Is Not My Hat" by Jon Klassen. We noticed that some things were the same and some things were different than his other book called "I Want My Hat Back."

After we read the book, Ms. Armstrong taught us how to make origami hats. She used the document camera to show us how to fold them just right.

In the afternoon Deanne Crothers our neigborhood MLA came to read us a story.

It was a very busy day. Check back tomorrow to hear about what we did in the afternoon...
