Building Bridges

We have been learning all about Canadian animals and how to classify them into different animal groups.

The groups are Mammals, Insects, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and Fish. We have played a number of different games and read lots of books to teach us about the specific characteristics of each group.

In our studies, it came up that many animals are killed each year when trying to cross major highways and roads. Some people have built special bridges to help animals cross more safely.

We decided to take this on as a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) challenge!

Mrs. Lowe supplied straws, tape, popsicle sticks, paper, and pipe cleaners. The rest was up to us!

Our success criteria is that the bridge had to cross a road, a truck had to fit under the bridge, and a goat needed to be able to cross on top.

We learned that it is ok to look at other people's designs to get ideas. You can also change your design if it is not working. You have to PERSEVERE because your idea might not work out on the first try.

Combining Art and Music

Today we watched some videos that inspired us to consider the relationship between music and art.

This is just some of what was said in our reflection:

"Check out these people, they use paint, chalks, blindfolds, and spray paint." - Landyn

"They combined the music and art to create a beautiful picture. They don't care if it doesn't come out the way they wanted. They tried their best and it's their art." - Xander

"When the guy was making the picture, it was nice and it looks like it was in space." - Camilo

"They listen to their brain."- Harleen

"They use their imagination." - Ethan

"It was awesome." - Caleb

"They listen to the music." - J

"I liked the picture and I liked the music. It was my favourite." - Chance

Please leave us a comment and let us know what you think! Also, check back to see how our art is inspired by these conversations.
