Wonder Journals

The kids in room 8 are SO smart! They have been working hard at learning their letters and sounds and they have been practicing their writing.

Today was the big day for everyone to get their very own wonder journals. In their journals, they can write about whatever they wonder or imagine.

Before we started writing today, we were inspired by the book "The Wonder." The book is about a little boy with a big imagination!

After reading the book, we used our imaginations to do some writing and illustrations. Writing in our journals will soon become part of our daily routine. I can't wait to read about all of the great things in the imaginations of the of room 8 kids!

Northern Lights

For the last number of weeks, our class has been very interested in learning about the arctic. We have learned about northern animals, weather, plants, symbols, and the Inuit people.

Today we watched some videos about the Northern Lights.

The first video was aimed at an older audience but the students were very interested in seeing the scientific explanation.

You can watch the video here:

Outer Space: The Northern Lights

The other two videos were more beautiful and focused more on how beautiful the lights are.

We talked about all of the colours we saw in the sky and then set about creating our own beautiful Northern Lights art.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentines Day from Room 8! We celebrated early and boy did we have fun! We delivered our cards to each other. I was so proud of students writing and reading each others names!

Then we spent some time reading our cards and saying thank you to friends.

Finally, we ate the delicious snacks that many families sent. Thank you so much for making our celebration so fun and yummy too!

Valentine Holders and a Special Guest

Students in Room 8 were very busy today! We are getting ready for our Valentine's celebration tomorrow. We decided that since many students will be bringing cards for their friends, we will need a place to put them.

We looked at lots of different paper and materials for building. We discussed which papers would be good for building and which would be better for decorating. We also decided on a criteria so that we would know if our holder was ready.

Then we started designing! It was great practice for cutting, gluing, folding and writing! When students were done, they checked the criteria to make sure they had completed everything on the list.

At the end of the day we had a very special guest reader, a former Stevenson student who is now in grade 2! He read Green Eggs and Ham. The kindergarten kiddos were enthralled and had lots of great compliments for him after the story.

Some very tired kiddos at the end of the day.

Global School Play Day

Today was an amazing day! First thing this morning we all worked together to set our schedule for the day. We worked as a team to decide what kind of things we would like to do and what times would work best to do them.

It was exciting, loud, giddy, exhausting, and just plain FUN!

Here are some of the highlights:
