Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Yesterday we started talking about how we can help keep our earth clean.

Mrs. Lowe showed us this picture. This poor turtle got caught in a six-pack ring when he was just little. As he grew, his shell grew around the rings. The kids in Room 8 thought the turtle probably felt very sad.

We read some great books to give us ideas for how we can be friends of the Earth.

We decided to start with our classroom. We sorted our garbage into three different containers.
One for garbage, recycling, and compost.

Because we were so good at sorting our garbage, Mrs. Lowe asked us if we would help her make signs for a race that she is going to on the weekend. The signs will help the people at the race to know where to put their garbage. You can read more about the race here.

We are pretty proud of our work!

Nature Walk and Treasure Hunt

Today we went on a nature walk. We saw signs of spring including; robins, green grass, buds, seeds, and an acorn.

We went to the park and it was fun. We were really close to lots of kids houses and we saw lots of airplanes.

While we were on our nature walk. We decided to go Geocaching. We found treasure!

If you've never heard of Geocaching, be sure to check out the website here.

Earth Day!

Today we celebrated Earth Day. Our whole school shut the lights off. We couldn't work in our classroom because it was too dark.

So...we went outside.

We picked up a lot of garbage.

At music listening time we had the lights off.

When we did our weekend news we worked in the hallway because there were windows to make it bright.

In the afternoon we went for a walk around the school. We looked for signs of spring.

We made a list of ways we can be friends to the earth.

Are you celebrating Earth Day?
